Today’s “Before They Were Stars” segment features the newly retired UFC veteran, Chris Lytle. As most of you may know, Lytle acquired the nickname “lights out” because he moonlighted as a professional boxer from 2002 to 2005 of which he acquired a 13-1-1 record.
Even though he dabbled in boxing, Lytle’s heart was in MMA (thankfully). This veteran’s record in MMA stands a very impressive 31-18-5. The funny thing is that even though he was so proficient at the “sweet science,” one would think that the majority of his wins would come from KO’s, but that is not the case… 71% of his wins came via submission!
The first clip is from the 2000 ADCC North American Trials (prior to his UFC debut). It’s amazing how far our sport has come along since then. As you will see, the trials were held at some small catering hall with almost no one in the crowd.
The second clip is from one of his early Shoot matches.
