From professional mixed martial artists, to weekend warriors, increasingly the threat of staph infection is a thought on the mind of many who participate in combat sports. It is not uncommon nowadays for a mixed martial artist to have to pull out of a fight due to a staph infection. Recently Matt Hammill fought in the UFC with a visible infection on his body. There is great concern as types of Staph infections, such as MRSA, are more often resistant to antibiotics

There is some new hope from a small clinical study that suggests cranberry juice cocktail may prevent staph infection before it gets started. While the study was small, and the results preliminary, this information is definitely of interest to combat athletes and grapplers who are generally at a higher risk of such infections than the general population.
